Pros and Cons of Ads on your blog.

Well to me I see a lot of webmasters bitch and complain about ad’s on blogs. Look at Tyler Cruz, and John Chow. There blogs are filled with ad’s and I honestly think this brings a negative effect on there user audience. Most people that read theses blogs are other webmasters or unlucky digg users just looking for an interesting read. Then as they go to the site they are filled with ads. Let’s take a look.

John Chow:

You can notice that his site has more than 4 ad’s on it. I know he has lowered it since then. Plus I am not even counting the “buy me a beer” text.

Tyler Cruz:

Tyler has 4 ad’s on it as well.

You can say there sites have well placed ads. And I have to disagree. I find banner ad’s annoying and intrusive and really just want me to stick with the RSS feed than check the site. I am sure people feel the same way. I am not saying that it is bad they have many ad’s on there sites I just think it could be lowered for a more effective CTR and more user friendly experience on there site. So my advice;

1) Take off the google ad’s in the post.
2) Make a specific section for ad’s.
3) Take off most of the text links and offer your advertisers text links on the RSS feed where they would do better. Text links in an RSS feed would make the ads CTR sky rocket.
4) Replace banners at the top to skyscrapers on the sidebars.

Also, for anyone reading Tylers Post on the StarCraft2.net forum designer and he wanted $25 for the link? Well here it is;

The power of link sales, and blog updates.

Well with the every growing power of blogs on the internet, I decided to use my pagerank and my traffic details to sell a few sponsored links on my blog. I think they are not to ‘in your face’. They have there own section and people should check them out. Pretty cool sites I sold the spots too I think.

Alright as for the blog, I have changed the skin on final time. I will be customizing it a bit later. I also have plans on getting this baby a domain finally. Or I might keep it as a sub domain I haven’t decided since I have been busy with client work and building my portfolio. I haven’t honestly gotten started on my first few ideas. I am still writing up the mock up and yes I do percentage risks. Since like most other webmasters I am greedy with my money. I want to make sure my invest will be a ROI. I hate throwing in money at something and not seeing a return or even a budge in how much I put into it.

I also added a new person to my ever slow growing blog roll. Big shout of to Tom Huveners. A great new link buddy. I suggest you check out his blog. It’s pretty cool great learning information.

Thanks it for now, my next post will be an informational post about some tactics I use to make money. My older posts A Deep Dive into Link Building , 5 easy ways to have a successful forum, How to increase profits on a proxy. They where all pretty popular so I think I will be doing more of those.

Man, Where have I been.

Well, hello everyone. How are ya? Well, I am fine and I haven’t been online lately. Sorry about that. I have been very busy with graduating from high school and getting my life and focus back to agree and I have some exciting news. I am going to the Art Institute of Dallas! I am pretty happy now! So, now that I am waiting to get my sign up going I am in the process of moving out. soon I think. I think you guys would be proud. My few loyal readers. Haha.

As for my future in the web business. I have gotten back into the web design business same with coding and am hoping to get my portfolio and a new website up. As for my proxies I am planning on selling and getting into content driven websites with affiliate sales and more so content based. I think that has more key valve than a website that just makes a quick buck. I am thinking about my future now. So I am planning on releasing two new blogs to my portfolio of sites and a few forums as well and maybe a niche site or too. I have a few hundred to invest and I will keep you guys updated on each site that comes out.

Also, I am in the market for a new car and I am about to purchase this Honda Accord 2003. Tell me what you think? 😉

An interesting email.

Well I got an interesting email today from Proxytopsite.net, In light of all the new developments that bots are going to proxy.org and giving invalid clicks on proxies to narrow out the competition for a hackers site apparently. Here is the email..

Dear ProxyTopSite.net Members,

Many proxy operators have recently received letters from Google Adsense notifying them that invalid clicks were found on their sites. While surfing the boards (specifically http://proxy.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1176233488;start=all) at Proxy.org, I came across a fellow named Jason Collins. He claimed that Proxy.org was the source of these invalid clicks. While I am unsure if the operator of Proxy.org (known as Baron) is the source of this or is at least complicit in this, Mr. Collins stated he has had personal contact with a manager in Google Adsense stating “over 90% of traffic through Proxy.org is non-human.” He has evidence proving his contact with Google. (he has a screenshot in this thread that involves a discussion of my account with his Google contact: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=293762) Further, Baron refuses to acknowledge this despite evidence otherwise, and removes posts stating that Proxy.org is the source of this traffic or flatly denying Proxy.org could be to blame.

If you would like more information about what Mr. Collins knows, or evidence he has, contact him at jcollins@lakotaoffice.com.

BOTTOM LINE: Either remove your sites from proxy.org (http://proxy.org/contact.shtml, select “Delist Proxy”) or make sure Adsense doesn’t show on your site if the referer is Proxy.org. Note that sometimes sites can be listed even if you didn’t submit them to Proxy.org. If Adsense does contact you, REMOVE YOUR ADS from your proxy sites immediately until it is resolved and you block Proxy.org users from seeing the ads and RESPOND IMMEDIATELY to Google.

Feel free to contact me or Mr. Collins regarding this, though Mr. Collins has much more information on this than I do and can provide more background on it all. Best of luck to you all.

Interesting information, just a heads up for all you proxy owners.

Proxy Owners beware!

After reading Mubin’s blog post “Watch Your Proxies! Google has warned thee!” people are click google ad’s in order to get other proxy owners banned to keep the market to themselves. I am outraged. There is a small group of people doing this and it is best advised not to keep google ad’s on your proxy. People are getting banned from adsense due to this group and really hurting the proxy community.

On the Proxy.Org forum’s people are discussing it and the news is bad. This post people are saying that it is not humans that are clicking the ad’s but bots with the intention of getting webmasters banned.

All I have to say is us proxy owners are worried. I recommend everyone take off your adsense until the matter is further researched. No use in getting your account banned. There are plenty of other ways to earn money on a proxy.

What do I do all day? Well…

I see many blogs online where people talk and talk about there projects and never really tell the readers what exactly the do when sitting on the computer. So I decided to make a post dedicated to just that and letting my readers know what I do when online.

1) I log into my email – basically to check for any problems or questions with my sites and to see how my clients are doing or if family needs anything.

2) I log into Paypal, Adsense, CJ and Auction Ad’s – To get the low do on the days earnings, I try and not to look very often. Makes you worry to much.

3) I go to my forums – check activity as well as check up on mods and people of interest.

4) Log into Digital Point, and Wicked Fire – I read threads and chat it up a bit.

5) I update my sites – I try my hardest to update my sites with fresh content and really try to make my site seem active will pressing affiliate offers and utilizing adsense as a way of profit.

6) I check C-Panel – I check on my bandwidth to make sure everything is running smoothly and nothing is being DOS attacked.

7) Browse around for sites to purchase – Can never have enough! Never put all your eggs in one basket.

And that is my basic way of life on the PC side. I didn’t include bathroom, food, hanging out with friends, TV etc. But you get the idea.

Also, I am looking to trade links with any relevant blog. I plan on getting a domain on this puppy soon and looking for link exchanges! Comment this post with your site and anchor text and I will put you up as long as you return the favor. Free back link right?

New blinds for my room.

Man I am really in need for new blinds for my room, Don’t you hate that? I have the regular old 2 inch window blinds and my damn dog keeps ripping them up! He chews and tears them up when a damn cat, bird or person walks by which is actually really annoying since this is about the hundredth time I have had to replace them. So I recommend you should really watch what your dog is doing near a window since they always seem to do something that isn’t good. Also, I just really enjoy opening my blinds when it is sunny and a beautiful day just makes working so much more enjoyable and fun.
